What is Hypnosis?

“A Suggestible State”

Hypnosis is one of the most natural states of the human mind, a state of alpha-theta brainwave activity, which is as natural as sleep (from Greek; “Hypno” - “sleep”) and we go through it every single day. It is a trance-like state, which the brain uses as a segway into sleep, and it is also experienced every day when we perform familiar, repetitive actions like our wake-up routine or our drive to work. A hypnotist is someone who utilizes the hypnosis state in others through the power of suggestion. Hypnosis is the most direct route to the understanding and re-education of the subconscious mind. The industry standard for becoming a hypnotist is usually about 100 to 150 hours of training. Most of these trainings are not licensed by the Department of Education and they offer minimal amounts of training compared to other professions.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis for therapeutic purposes. Hypnotherapy uses specific techniques as a means of treatment for a wide range of presenting issues. Hypnosis can be created by overloading the mind with message units, disorganizing the inhibitory process, which triggers the fight/flight mechanism and ultimately creates a hyper-suggestible state that provides access to the subconscious mind. By employing far more powerful and advanced techniques, the hypnotherapist uses different transformational modalities to treat fears, and phobias, modify limiting beliefs, and assist in the treatment of numerous medical conditions. The techniques of Hypnotherapy are more vast, and elaborate and require more in-depth training.

What to Expect

Hypnosis and Energy Therapy Sessions

The healing process is unique and tailored to everyone’s personal needs. No two Hypnosis sessions are the same and just as in Energy Therapy the effect is compounded after a few meetings. Everyone reaches new depths of awareness, hypnotic relaxation, stillness, and clarity.

Depending on the service you are interested in, you can choose from an in-person session at my office in San Diego, a Zoom Hypnotherapy session, or a group KALI class, which is usually held at local yoga studios.

Introductory Hypnotherapy Session

This is a required starting point and the conditioning for all future sessions.
This first session is impactful and goal-oriented. It is conducted partly as an interview and helps to understand your history and needs, the presenting issue, and how hypnosis can benefit you. You will learn how the mind and hypnotherapy work, and what is your suggestibility type, and we will outline a plan to achieve your desired goals. After this, you will experience hypnosis and awaken feeling relaxed, but focused, clear, and optimistic.

Single Hypnotherapy Session

An introductory session is a prerequisite.

We dive deeper into the subconscious with each following session. The primitive part of the mind is now familiar with the process and we can unveil deeper layers of your psyche, reinforcing the suggestions from the 1st session and building up to reach the desired outcome using various techniques. The mind creates new and stronger neuropathways through repetition and consistency. Here is where we also start to discover and discard unwanted negative thought patterns, limiting beliefs, and secondary gains. You gain a greater sense of understanding of the curious and unique workings of your inner mind, and you become aware of your own innate wisdom. It is like coming to know your true essence.

  • Yes! Hypnosis is a gentle, natural state and every human being goes through that mental state multiple times a day. Furthermore, the mind has an innate foolproof program for self-preservation, which will never allow information to be imposed on it that may be detrimental to the Self. I hold a deep respect for and honor each individual’s unique life path and healing process. I create a comfortable, safe environment and my goal is to only serve your highest benefit. You are a fundamental part of this process, and you are the main part of hypnosis and therapy. You are the composer, and I am the conductor of the theme and melody you want to sound through you. After all You hold all the answers to all your questions and deep inside You know the solutions for all of your problems. I just help you create a connection to your inner wisdom.

  • Everyone can be hypnotized! Why you were just hypnotized yesterday by scrolling down your social media page! The right question to ask is: “Do you want to be hypnotized?”. Different people perceive information in different ways, and it does take a little bit of getting to know you, so I can use the most appropriate language that is most compatible with your unique inner mind.

  • All therapeutic modalities have their own distinctive value. Hypnotherapy works to uncover and dissolve deeply rooted subconscious programming – belief and behavior patterns, thought forms, habits, and past experiences that limit us and keep us locked in a reply of negative decisions and circumstances. It is an interactive, versatile, holistic mind-body-spirit healing modality that is uniquely tailored to you during each session. It reprograms the mind and creates lasting changes. It brings a deeper sense of awareness, and understanding of your past experience and leads to a profound connection with your own self.

  • Hypnotherapy is appropriate for people of all ages. And it can be effective for everyone- even the most skeptical. Generally, hypnotherapy is used for vocational and avocational self-improvement. There is a wide range of application of therapeutic hypnosis: stress, anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, fears, phobias, concentration, motivation, pain management, career success, procrastination, public speaking, PTSD, guilt, shame, aggression, self-confidence, weight-loss, smoking cessation, tinnitus, pre-and post-surgical, sports performance and many more.

  • Most definitely. Like many other modalities, hypnosis can only help the willing. A person who is not ready for change cannot be helped by anyone but themselves. Even with the use of hypnosis, I cannot make you do anything you do not want to do. That being said if you are here looking for help, no matter how skeptical or nervous you might be – you will reap the benefits of hypnotherapy by simply allowing yourself to be open, receptive, and ready to change. Positive Intention, paired with positive action can only lead to positive change. So, get excited! You never know what amazing trance-formation awaits you when you get in touch with your limitless internal resources.

  • While both can be associated with suggestion and relaxation, “hypnosis steers spontaneous mental activity toward suggested events,” while mindfulness requires metacognitive skills and “observation of spontaneous thoughts and emotions with an accepting, nonjudgmental attitude.” Hypnosis is a focused, goal-oriented alpha-theta brainwave mental state, with the use of specific procedures and predetermined suggestions or affirmations. Meditation is generally a practice of clearing the mind. It is attention training that brings about a heightened state of awareness, of paying attention to the present moment with an accepting, nonjudgmental disposition.

  • “Suggestibility is the quality of being inclined to accept and act on the suggestions of others”. In other words, suggestibility is the tendency to be influenced by and open to ideas, beliefs, attitudes, and actions of others. It is a filter, an attribute of the Critical Area of the Mind, which discerns what information is readily accepted into the subconscious part of the mind. Not all subjects respond equally to hypnotic suggestions and depth. Some people react better to physical sensation, while others to emotional or environmental stimuli. It is almost as if every mind has its own specific language that it responds to best. It is my job as your hypnotherapist to decode how to communicate with your psyche to gain the best results. You will discover your suggestibility type in our first hypnosis session!

  • Hypnosis is an effective tool to help cope with stress. It is also helpful for pain control, behavior change, fears and phobias, sleep disorders, depression, post-trauma anxiety, grief and loss, cancer treatment side effects. Hypnosis is also used to overcome habits like smoking, overeating and to alter self- defeating behavior.   • An Introductory Session is 90 minutes, and all following sessions are 60 minutes. The Past Life Regression appointment is 1.5 to 2 hours in duration.

  • In most cases nothing. However, it does depend on the presenting issue. In some cases, a physician’s or mental care therapist’s referral may be necessary before we start our sessions. Clients under the age of 18 need to provide a signed Parental Consent form.

  • Hypnosis does not involve mind control, magic, unconsciousness, or sleep. It is a tool for gaining more self-control and awareness, it is not a process of losing control.

    No one can be hypnotized against their will.

    Hypnosis is a heightened state of concentration and focused attention. You will remain awake, responsive and alert.

    Hypnotherapy is not a quick fix. Some cases require a number of sessions in conjunction with the use of other modalities or the help of other medical or psychological professionals.

    Different people experience hypnosis differently - you may or may not reach a deep state of trance. Either way, you will gain the benefits of the therapy. Generally the more experience you have with meditation or hypnosis the easier it is to reach a state of timelessness, weightlessness and a deeply relaxed dream-like state.

    A hypnotized person is not like a robot who will do whatever the hypnotist orders. Hypnosis does not cause loss of willpower and self-control.

    Although hypnosis may increase accurate memories, it also increases false memories. Therefore I do not use age-regression to release negative past experiences. There are other more beneficial ways to approach emotional processing and release.
